Chanel Reissue 2.55 Timeless Classic Flap Shoulder Bag
CHANEL REISSUE VS CHANEL TIMELESS CLASSIC FLAP BAG, THE FACTS:
Mademoiselle Coco Chanel designed the 2.55 bag in February 1955, this iconic model owes its name to the month and year of its birth. She purposely designed the bag with a handle, so that at a party she had her hands free for a cigarette, hors d’oeuvre and a glass. A woman after our hearts!
The most popular Chanel bag is without a doubt the Timeless Classic Flap Bag, which is often incorrectly referred to as 2.55. We will try to explain to you how this works.
The Chanel Flap Bag nowadays simply comes in two classic variants: the Reissue 2.55 and the Timeless Classic Flap Bag. Over the years, different variants of the flap bag have been launched, which was very confusing. In 1983 Karl Lagerfeld put things in order and since then only two types of classic flap bags have been sold, namely the:
– Chanel Reissue 2.55
– Chanel Timeless Classic Flap Bag
The lock on the front is different. The Reissue has a Mademoiselle turnlock, while the Timeless Classic has a double CC lock. Coco Chanel designed her famous CC logo herself, but it was Karl Lagerfeld who first used the logo as a closure on a bag.
The leather of the Reissue is usually pre-wrinkled, for a so-called ‘used look’. They call it Aged Calfskin Leather. The Timeless Classic is most often made of smooth leather or caviar leather of lamb or calf.
The chain of the Reissue is not laced with leather as is the case with the Timeless Classic.
There is a difference in sizes, below you will find an overview.
A large stitched CC logo on the inside of the second flap.
The price of both models is the same.
Both are available with gold or silver hardware.
Vintage bags in this model are both slightly different: less rounded corners than today.

This one is very special horizontal stitching
One of the most wanted and sought after models of the Chanel fashion house is the reissue line. Thick and resilient stitched calf leather with an edged look that is beautifully developed with the timeless and elegant release chain in gunmetal. The color of this Chanel bag is black, timeless!
At the front a metal mademoiselle closure. This is the closure that Coco Chanel always uses. Because she was never married, the lock has this name. The CC closure was not introduced by Karl Lagerfeld until 1980.
For the 50th anniversary of the 2.55, Karl Lagerfeld had it remade in February 2005, exactly as Coco designed it in 1955. That’s where the name Reissue comes from. In fact, the can only be used for the bags that were named after the original in 2005. But the usual one is the term that all bags are made.
This bag is also made of black on the inside and has a side pocket, which can be closed with a zipper
